Pirate Bay Under Assault

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Torrentfreak has word that four of the people at the Pirate Bay are being prosecuted for being party to copyright infringement:

Roswall consequently asks the court for a $188,000 fine for the four individuals - Fredrik Neij (”TiAMO”), Gottfrid Svartholm (”Anakata”), Peter Sunde (”Brokep”) and businessman Carl Lundström - and the confiscation of their computers. Among the works that were mentioned in the charges are “Let It Be” from the Beatles and Harry Potter’s “The Goblet of Fire”.

Brutal. Best of luck guys!

Shoe’s Taking a Stand

I always thought that the guys over at 1up.com, EGM, and GFW were pretty legit, but seeing Dan Hsu standing up to obnoxious publishers goes to show that there is hope in the industry.

Holidays and Interterm

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Long story short: I took a lot of time off from the internet to chill out, let my eyes recover, and actually play some World of Warcraft. So I guess I was still staring at a monitor, but that’s beside the point. My cousins came down from Sacramento, and that was totally good times. My younger cousin is thinking about getting into computer science, so I burned him an Ubuntu disc and let him play around with it for a while. We’ll see how it turns out.

Basically, interterm seems like it’s going to be spent watching a ridiculous amount of movies with Calculus Girl, reading about Regular Expressions, finally getting down to packaging, and taking a  Gender and Communication class. This way I get my Human Diversity GE requirement out of the way, and I can still audit the math class. LaTeX is actually pretty awesome; I had no idea it was so powerful.

I also wanted to say that  this is a sweet Python review and is really helping me dust off my knowledge of the language.
